Livescan FAQs

Livescan Frequently asked questions

Live Scan is a highly efficient method used to obtain inkless fingerprints, which are subsequently converted into a digital format and directly transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ then conducts thorough checks of the fingerprints against existing criminal history records. The requesting agency is promptly notified with a response indicating the presence or absence of any criminal history. In cases where the applicant has a clean record, the DOJ endeavours to provide a response to the requesting agency within an estimated timeframe of 3 to 7 days.

Applicants are required to bring three (3) copies of the "Request for Live Scan Service" form. This form should be completed by both the agency requesting the Live Scan and the applicant. Please note that our staff is unable to provide assistance with filling out the form. Additionally, the applicant must present a valid form of picture identification, such as a United States issued driver's license/identification or passport. The forms are provided to the applicant by the agency responsible for the Live Scan. Please be aware that Nexusphase LLC is unable to supply the necessary forms.

There are two fees associated with the Live Scan process: the rolling (fingerprinting) fee and the background investigation fee. Nexusphase LLC charges a fee of $40.00 for the rolling (fingerprinting) service for all applications. The background investigation fee varies depending on the type of Live Scan application and the level of service required by the requesting agency. This fee covers the cost of the Department of Justice conducting a criminal record check based on your fingerprints. The background fees range from $40.00 to $197.00. It is important to note that the background fee is in addition to the $40.00 rolling (fingerprinting) fee. If your Live Scan form includes an "Agency Billing Number" on the designated line (a six-digit number starting with "1"), it means that the agency requesting your Live Scan will be responsible for paying the background fees. In this case, you will only need to pay the $40.00 rolling (fingerprinting) fee. On the other hand, if your form does not have a billing number, you will be responsible for paying both the rolling (fingerprinting) fee and the applicable background investigation fee.

Nexusphase offers a variety of payment options for your convenience. We accept cash, checks, Venmo, Paypal, Cash App, VISA, MasterCard, money orders, cashier's checks, and corporate/business checks. It is important to note that when submitting a corporate or business check, it must be issued by the agency listed on the Live Scan form and must correspond to the agency requesting your Livescan.

Appointments are currently open and can be conveniently scheduled online through our appointment calendar. These slots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) does not disclose or share your personal information with other agencies. When applying for a Livescan, the submitted form authorizes the release of your criminal history response exclusively to the designated requesting agency. Consequently, it is necessary to complete a new application each time a criminal history check is required, thereby repeating the Livescan process. It is important to note that prior Livescan information cannot be utilized for subsequent requests.

n most instances, the results from the Department of Justice (DOJ) are typically received within 72 hours. However, it is important to note that there may be instances where results are delayed due to various factors. In the event of a significant delay, the DOJ will proactively communicate with the requesting agency. The results themselves are delivered either via email or directly to the requesting agency as indicated on the Request for Live Scan Service form.

Once the Live Scan process has been completed at our facility, any inquiries should be directed to the agency responsible for your employment or licensing. If the requesting agency has not received the results, you may contact the Applicant Processing Program at 916-227-3823. Please be aware that this department is the sole authority in verifying whether your record was dropped or incompletely processed. It is important to note that Nexusphase LLC is unable to resubmit a record without written permission from the DOJ, and this process may take up to 30 days.

All Live Scan forms must be provided to you by the agency that wants you to get fingerprinted. These forms contain information that is unique to each agency and this information must be provided before arriving to have your prints taken.

Occasionally, fingerprints may be rejected for various reasons. Among the most common reasons is when the applicant's fingerprints exhibit characteristics that are challenging to capture accurately during the live scan process. These characteristics may include cuts, scars, and calluses. In the event that an applicant's fingerprints are rejected on these grounds, and their initial scanning was conducted by Nexusphase LLC, we will gladly offer a complimentary rescan of their fingerprints without any additional cost.
